Toilet Training Your Child

Everyone knows that a child in the playgroup, which was composed entirely of fourteen months. But … the more you want your child to go to pot, the less interested it seems. You start having nightmares about him going to school Mother with layers … or worse … junior high school.

Do not worry. Your son does not really start seventh grade in layers. Like most developmental milestones of children, each child is different and develop at their own pace. While you wait for juniors feel the motivation to clean his own, you can start getting ready.

Signs of Readiness

Your child will begin to show signs when he is ready for potty. Here are some:

  1. Wanting to change his diaper immediately after wetting or defecating
  2. Place dolls or stuffed animals on the potty
  3. Ask to use the potty
  4. List interest when a brother or a parent uses the bathroom

Chairs and clean rings

You can invest in a potty or a potty ring size that is on your toilet seat. Some children, like the feeling of having their feet on soil, especially when defecating. Others are OK to be off the ground, but the impression they will fall into the toilet regularly – and after all, they could – these little tush are quite small compared to the large hole in the seat!

A special trip to the bank to get the equipment clean can make your child feel that he is to attract positive attention of the whole adventure pot. That choose one he likes best and then put in a special place in the bathroom.

Rewards and Games

Sticker cards or other small rewards are great for providing motivation. Set short term goals (and remember that you're dealing with a toddler – in the short term could be the end of the day!) and choose a reward or treat.

Jar Books and Tools

There are many books on the market for children on toilet training. Go to the library together and choose a few. Read them often! There pot dolls available that can be useful. Your child can "teach" the doll how to use the potty, and perhaps more likely to set a good example.

Potty Power

Do not push your child before she is ready or you might have a struggle for power on your hands. If you encounter serious resistance, back a bit and try again in a few days (or weeks). Some kids (my son comes to mind) Relish the feeling of being in control. Once my little boy realized that I could not make it go to pot, he did everything in his power to avoid actually pee in the pot.

A few more points to consider:

  1. Develop good habits pot at the beginning. Wiping front to back, and always wash your hands are habits that should be part of the routine from the beginning.
  2. Avoid words as "bad" or "stinky" when accidents occur.
  3. Some children may be afraid of the loud flush. If this is the case, rinse after leaving the room.
  4. Disposable pull-ups can be great for car rides or long trips to the store, and for wetting night.
